A Grateful Alum

Hazelden Betty Ford has been a hub of addiction treatment and recovery in Chicago for more than 20 years. Offering multiple levels of rehab as well as mental health services, our treatment center provides you with optimal outpatient treatment programming options to meet your specific needs.

Our outpatient treatment services in Chicago are in-network with most insurance carriers, so you can readily access the quality care you need and deserve.

Outpatient Rehab Programs and Services Overview

Our Chicago outpatient treatment center offers you two distinct levels of alcohol and drug rehab.

Day Treatment

Our day treatment program, a level of care also known as partial hospitalization, is an especially effective outpatient rehab option if you:

  • Experienced a recent relapse
  • Made multiple previous attempts at an inpatient or outpatient drug rehabilitation center
  • Struggle with co-occurring mental health disorders, such as depression or anxiety

For patients who have a co-occurring mental health condition (also known as dual diagnosis), our treatment center staff will coordinate mental health care to align with your treatment plan. Our clinicians are well-versed in evidence-based treatment approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. We also offer gender-informed group therapy, and in-person and virtual appointments.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)

Our intensive outpatient program, available in-person and virtually, is an effective rehab option if you:

  • Are transitioning out of inpatient addiction treatment
  • Experienced a relapse
  • Are new to addiction recovery

Outpatient alcohol and drug rehab program at our Illinois treatment center operates under the same evidence-based, Twelve Step principles and practices as Hazelden Betty Ford's inpatient programs. This means your treatment plan will be individualized and comprehensive, from diagnosis to post-treatment recommendations.

Low-Intensity Outpatient Program

As you meet clinical milestones and learn to prioritize your sobriety and manage your substance use disorder, our treatment experts might transition you into a low-intensity outpatient program. These sessions are available in-person or virtually. Group treatment sessions are scheduled less frequently as you adapt newly acquired recovery skills into your everyday life by:

  • Building new routines
  • Strengthening your recovery support networks
  • Identifying substance abuse relapse triggers

Outpatient Mental Health Services

In addition to substance abuse rehab services, our Chicago treatment center provides in-person and virtual services for mental health disorders. If you are struggling to cope with depression, anxiety, grief, loss, post-traumatic stress disorder or other mental health disorders, our skilled clinicians can help you find a healthier, happier path forward.

Your care plan will typically begin with an assessment by our mental health staff to determine the best therapies, services, individual or group counseling to address your needs.  For example, we offer a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills group with an emphasis on cognitive restructuring, which is a beneficial approach for addressing depression and anxiety.

Specialized Trauma Focus

If you have experienced trauma and are struggling now with a substance abuse, you’re not alone. Our trauma-informed addiction treatment groups can help you:

  • Understand trauma and its link to addiction
  • Cope with thoughts and emotions related to your history of trauma, including grounding and self-soothing
  • Feel safe and supported in talking about your past trauma and its impact in your daily life
  • Participating in a trauma-informed group during drug and alcohol rehab could make all of the difference in your recovery journey.
