Programs for Families Affected by Addiction

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation educates and supports families faced with alcohol and drug addiction.

Addiction is called "a family disease" for good reason. Your family is in pain. By the time most families reach out for help, the disease has progressed to a crisis level.

New Beginnings for Families Affected by Addiction

At the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, we believe your family needs help in your own right. Our Family Programs educate families about the disease of addiction and the different ways family members are affected. Families learn to:
  • work through the chaos you've experienced
  • set healthy boundaries
  • rebuild trusting relationships

Helping Families Heal

The biggest lessons for family members come from understanding that you can't control your loved one's drug or alcohol addiction, but you can take responsibility for your own health and happiness. Family Program participation involves:
  • presentations by clinical staff
  • group discussions
  • personal goal-setting
  • reading and reflection
  • fellowship with other participants
Family Programs are offered at varying times and locations throughout the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. You do not need to have a family member in rehab to participate.
