Planning Your Trip

Arriving by Plane

  • Please schedule your flight to arrive by Noon Central Time. If flying into MSP International airport:
  • Hazelden transportation will pick you up at Baggage Claim Carousel 13-14 of Terminal 1.
  • If flying into Terminal 2 (airlines Icelandair, Air Tran, Southwest and Sun Country), our driver will meet you at the terminal.
  • If flying into a regional airport/private charter, Hazelden transportation will meet you at the gate.
  • It may be up to a 2 hour wait for pick up if you choose to use Hazelden transportation.

Arriving by Automobile

  • Please plan to arrive on campus as early as possible, preferably before 1:00 p.m. Central.
  • When you arrive on campus, please follow the signs for admissions and park in one of the designated parking spots for patients and families.
  • Once parked, enter through the main entrance and feel free to bring your luggage in with you. Please notify our front receptionist if you would like assistance with your luggage.

  • Long-distance calling card – local calls can be made at no charge
  • Approximately $150-$200 in cash for incidentals – checks in an amount over $200 cannot be cashed on campus

  • Alcohol-based products including hairspray, cologne, aftershave, facial astringent, nail polish remover, and mouthwash – if brought onto campus, it will be collected and stored in a locked location and returned upon discharge if appropriate

  • Halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti strap tops, and tops that reveal the midriff or cleavage
  • Shorts shorter than mid-thigh in length

  • Television / flat screen

Medications

Items to Bring

  • Please bring a two-to-three day supply of your prescription medication(s) in the current prescription bottle(s).
  • If diabetic, please bring in a month's worth of diabetic equipment and supplies. If additional supplies are needed after admission and the local pharmacy cannot provide them, we will ask you have them shipped from home.

Items to Leave at Home

  • Please do not bring any mood altering or controlled substances with you to the Center City location. These substances are not allowed on campus. If found, they will be collected and disposed of appropriately.
  • Please do not bring any vitamins, dietary supplements, over the counter medications, herbal remedies, or energy drinks.
  • Please do not bring any medication, pills or supplements in baggies.

Special Medication Considerations

  • Your current medication(s) will be reviewed on admission. Some medications may be substituted for an equivalent based on pharmacy inventory. If this occurs and you have concerns, please notify medical staff.
  • Gastric Bypass clients that have specific nutritional supplement needs may bring these unopened containers for use pending pharmacy approval.
During Admission

Upon Admission to Addiction Treatment

  • One family member is included in the Family Program with the cost of addiction treatment services. We would encourage you contact the Family Program office at 1-888-257-7800, ext. 4112 or 1-651-213-4112 to register.
  • You will be escorted back to our medical unit to meet with medical staff and complete admissions paperwork. You will also receive a drug screen at this time.
  • You will receive a privacy practice notice at the time of admission discussing your rights as a patient receiving alcohol and drug treatment.
  • You will spend the first night on our medical unit for observation. If you require additional medical care, you may stay on the medical unit until cleared by our medical doctor to transfer to the treatment unit.
  • If you are designated as a priority admission, you may be sleeping on the medical unit until a bed is available on the addiction treatment unit. During this time, you may be allowed to participate in unit activities.
  • Visiting hours are Sundays 1:30 - 5 p.m. and Wednesdays 7 - 8:30 p.m.. Pets are not allowed on campus including designated visiting hours.
  • Gift cards are available for purchase at Serenity Corner. Any amount can be added to these gift cards, however, there is no refund if the balance is not used. Contact Serenity Corner at 1-651-213-4090 between the hours of 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. central time for any questions.
  • If out of state and on probation/parole or out of country: you will be provided the I-192 form or US Consulate, if applicable.

Personal and Dietary Accommodations

Hazelden Betty Ford makes every effort to provide you with high quality care; however, there are occurrences in which we may not be able to meet your needs in this setting. If we do not feel that we are able to meet your needs at the time of admission, we will provide you an appropriate referral or transfer, if necessary.

Hazelden Betty Ford is able to accommodate requests for vegetarian diets; however, we are unable to accommodate for a true Vegan diet at this time.

Admitting to Day Treatment and Structured Recovery Housing

Prior to your admission

  • Fax a copy of your History & Physical completed in the past 12 months.
  • Fax a copy of your Mantoux results completed (and cleared) in the past 30 days.
  • Fax a list of currently prescribed medication(s).
  • Fax a doctor's note indicating you are able to self-administer your own medication(s).
  • Bring a one month supply of your prescription medication(s) in the current prescription bottle(s).
  • Cell phones, computers and/or tablets are welcomed on campus but must be turned off during treatment groups. Wi-Fi is available with limited access for employment and communication purposes.

Please plan to attend all treatment activities on the scheduled days / times. If you have any concerns regarding the schedule speak with your counselor.

You may have your vehicle on campus after you have received approval from your counselor.
