Outpatient Treatment

Convenient, customized outpatient addiction treatment for teens and young adults

Our individually tailored outpatient alcohol and drug rehab programs at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation operate under the same evidence-based, Twelve Step principles and practices as our inpatient treatment programs. Your comprehensive care includes:

  • licensed dual-diagnosis program designed to meet the complex needs of young people struggling with co-occurring mental health issues
  • evidence-based treatment program utilizing many treatment modalities such as motivational interviewing, Twelve Step facilitation, DBT and more
  • separate programs for teens and young adults
  • an individualized treatment plan
  • thorough psychological, social, and substance use assessments
  • continuing care recommendations
  • day treatment with on-site housing available for those stepping down from inpatient
  • unmatched comprehensive family involvement and engagement in treatment to help heal the family and support the patient's recovery
  • developmentally appropriate treatment designed to meet the unique needs of adolescents and young adults in a supportive peer environment
Your initial care plan may include counseling, therapy services, and group work as often as four evenings a week. As you reach clinical and behavioral milestones, treatment will gradually transition to once a week, with a focus on developing healthy lifestyle practices that support lasting freedom from addiction.

Understanding your situation

Healing and help for parents and siblings

At the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, your family members have the life-changing opportunity to learn about the disease of addiction and how you've each been affected by it.

Our intensive, four-day Family Program provides education and support, helping your family to:
  • work through the chaos you've experienced
  • set healthy boundaries
  • rebuild trusting relationships
The participation fee for two family members is included in the cost of inpatient treatment. You do not need to have a child in treatment to participate.

Teen Intervene

Is it time to take a closer look?

Maybe your son or daughter was caught using marijuana. Or admitted to drinking with other underage friends. It may not be addiction, but some type of intervention is needed.

Our Teen Intervene program:
  • helps young people identify the reasons for—and effects of—their alcohol or drug use
  • provides teens with a personalized course of action for making healthier choices
  • offers education, support, and guidance for parents
Adolescents work one-on-one with a counselor for three sessions; parents are involved in one session, as clinically determined.
