The end result will be to empower physicians to be capable in addressing all aspects of addiction medicine. —The Addiction Medicine Foundation Program Description The Betty Ford Center Addiction Medicine Fellowship is a one-year program offering a rich and diverse learning experience focused on patient care. The program involves clinical rotations and incorporates practical clinical experiences, empowering physicians to effectively address all aspects of addiction medicine. The non-profit Betty Ford Center, part of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, is a licensed Chemical Dependency Recovery Hospital that provides comprehensive alcohol and other drug dependency treatment services. Residents in this program rotate among the Betty Ford Center's detoxification and inpatient units, making clinical rounds with the attending physician. Your Specialized Role With an intense focus on patient care, your fellowship will involve: Assessing patients from admission through treatment Administering detoxification protocols Completing addiction-focused patient histories and physical exams Determining pathophysiology, medical treatment and relapse indicators Developing proficiency in medical management, interview skills, patient education and oral presentations Acquiring expert knowledge of the disease of addiction, family codependency dynamics, diagnostic criteria and addiction medicine literature Playing a critical role as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team Added Expertise Your rotations will also include several specialized treatment programs at the Betty Ford Center: Day Treatment and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Pain Management Family Program Children's Program Program Location The Addiction Medicine Fellowship is currently only offered at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California.
