Betty Ford Center in San Diego, California

The Betty Ford Center's outpatient drug rehab and mental health programs in San Diego specialize in care for adults who struggle with alcohol or drug addiction and/or other mental health disorders.

The counselors and therapists at our San Diego treatment center understand that people come to us with varying degrees of motivation and commitment for making the behavioral health changes necessary to build long-term recovery. That's why our clinicians customize treatment planning to meet each patient's specific needs, concerns and challenges—from diagnosis to post-treatment recommendations.

Substance abuse treatment programs and services available at our San Diego outpatient rehab center include multiple levels of care for:

  • Alcohol and other drug addiction (substance use disorder
  • Mental health conditions (assessments and therapy)
  • Screening and brief intervention
  • Post-treatment support

Day Treatment

Whether you are admitted directly into the day treatment program at our Betty Ford Center in San Diego or you are stepping down from a higher level of care, this intensive daily addiction treatment program (also known as partial hospitalization) is an ideal fit if you:

  • Are transitioning from an inpatient level of care and could benefit from more support as you transition to home life
  • Would benefit from more support and guidance than a standard outpatient treatment program
  • Have returned to use but don't need the full inpatient treatment experience

Length of stay is variable depending on your clinical progress but programming is Monday-Friday for five hours a day.

Intensive Outpatient Addiction Treatment (IOP)

Available as an in-person or virtual treatment programming option, intensive outpatient alcohol and drug rehab program in San Diego is designed to meet your needs and lifestyle. With a focus on comprehensive and individualized treatment programming, our intensive outpatient program includes:

  • Psychological assessment
  • Social assessment
  • Alcohol and other substance abuse assessment
  • Personalized mental health and addiction treatment plan
  • Continuing care recommendations

Virtual Low-Intensity Outpatient Program

Similar to the IOP level of care, virtual low-intensity outpatient programs at the Betty Ford Center are designed to equip you with the self-knowledge, skills and resources to live free from addiction. As you increasingly adapt and apply these new skills and knowledge in your daily life, you will attend fewer outpatient group sessions.

The goal of low-intensity outpatient treatment is to help you prioritize recovery on a daily basis by:

  • Practicing and building new, healthy routines
  • Strengthening and growing your recovery support networks
  • Identifying and managing symptoms and relapse triggers

Virtual Outpatient Mental Health Services

Whether you are struggling with a co-occurring disorder (dual diagnosis) or facing mental health challenges unrelated to substance use disorder, the Betty Ford Center's licensed mental health professionals are here for you.

Through telehealth technology, we offer individual and group counseling services to help you address anxiety, depression, grief, post-traumatic stress or other emotional and mental health challenges. Beginning with an assessment, our mental health experts will create an individualized care plan and specialized support services to address your particular situation.

Mental health services are available Monday through Thursday by appointment and include assessments, individual and group therapy, and special-focus sessions such as a dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills group.

Help and Healing for Families Affected by Addiction

When one family member battles drug addiction, the entire family can be impacted by the stress, chaos and stigma that typically accompany the condition. Our Family programs, family-focused support groups and family counseling specialize in helping you and your loved ones recognize the strain addiction has placed on your family and giving you the tools to heal and strengthen your relationships.

With care and support, your family can:

  • Work through the hurt and stress you've experienced
  • Learn how to set and maintain healthy boundaries
  • Rebuild trust in one another

Many of our family services and resources are free and available to the general public (regardless of whether you come to us for addiction treatment or mental health counseling). Because many of these services are provided virtually, you and your family members can access support from wherever you're located—in San Diego or beyond.

Recovery Management

Many of the changes you make during substance abuse treatment involve new ways of living your life that take self-awareness, practice and patience. In fact, staying connected with others in recovery is one of the healthiest moves you can make.

Hazelden Betty Ford's post-rehab services and resources are designed to do just that: Keep you engaged, motivated, inspired and moving forward. Our experts have developed a number of recovery support tools and resources to guide and strengthen your recovery, reduce your risk of relapse, and help you make your health and well-being a daily priority.
