Center City, MN (October 19, 2017)—Nonprofit addiction treatment provider Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation today announced key partnerships in Toledo, Ohio with Harbor Behavioral Health and The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) to bring its evidence-based treatment programming and other tools to address the addiction crisis in that area of the state, one of the hardest hit by the nation's opioid crisis.
"The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation's experience, knowledge and expertise uniquely position us as a 'Center of Excellence' to share our clinical best practices and tools with other leading-edge health care providers through our innovative Patient Care Network," said Bob Poznanovich, executive director of business development for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.
The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation has mobilized its entire organization to confront the opioid crisis across the country. Part of that effort is helping fill treatment and knowledge gaps in states like Ohio by building collaborative partnerships for its "COR-12" opioid treatment programming with like-minded provider and health care system partners.
"We are committed to sharing our multi-faceted, evidence-based approach to confronting the opioid crisis with states like Ohio, and our own system benefits mightily from collaborating with other leading-edge health care providers like The University of Toledo Medical Center and Harbor Behavioral Health," said Poznanovich. "We are pleased both of these leading-edge organizations are now part of our innovative Patient Care Network."
"We saw the need and felt the obligation to join the fight against substance misuse that is so prevalent in the Toledo community, the state of Ohio and our nation," said Dan Barbee, CEO of UTMC. "As a member of the Hazelden Betty Ford Patient Care Network, we will have access to resources, best practices and most-effective treatment approaches that will be invaluable additions to our current care provided in the UTMC Adult Detoxification Inpatient Unit to aid our patients as they work toward a successful, long-term recovery."
The CEO of Harbor Behavioral Health, John Sheehan, said "we are excited to enter this strategic partnership with the nation's leading nonprofit addiction treatment provider. The partnership with Hazelden Betty Ford will provide our patients improved access to care and offer a wider range of gold standard options in our continuum of substance use services."
Today's announcement builds upon an ongoing partnership the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation's Publishing arm has with Dayton and Montgomery County (Ohio) Addiction Services and Public Health. That initiative, dubbed "Together We Can," is helping them implement medication-assisted treatment there.
"It is not only our own mission but also our responsibility to share this tried and tested program with communities everywhere that desperately need a solution that works," said Kris Van Hoof, executive director of publishing content and innovation management for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.
The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation launched its Patient Care Network—the first of its kind in the addiction treatment industry—this fall. Members gain access to tools, resources and collaborative consultation for their organization's leadership, staff, patients, families and communities. This is especially timely as the nation's opioid crisis places added pressures on individuals, families and communities. To learn more, visit .
