CENTER CITY, Minnesota (November 5, 2020) – David Wilke, FAHP, CFRE, vice president of development and campaign strategy at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, has been named one of three new Fellows of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (FAHP).
Representing less than 2% of AHP members, the FAHP is awarded to those who demonstrate professional excellence and a commitment to healthcare philanthropy. It is the highest level of achievement in the field of healthcare philanthropy, a designation bestowed on AHP members who have made significant contributions to the healthcare philanthropy profession.
"It is truly an honor to be recognized by my peers," Wilke said. "The role of philanthropy in the healthcare industry has never been more important amid the concurrent crises of the COVID-19 pandemic and the opioid epidemic. AHP members contribute so much to their respective employers and the people they serve, which makes this recognition so humbling."
Hazelden Betty Ford is the nation's largest nonprofit provider of addiction treatment, co-occurring mental health care, recovery resources and related prevention and education services—with 17 sites across the country, expansive telehealth solutions and a growing network of collaborators throughout health care. Wilke joined the organization at the launch of a bold, multi-year comprehensive campaign aimed at enabling Hazelden Betty Ford to help end the nation's longstanding and growing addiction crisis.
Wilke, who lives in Chicago, previously served as chief development officer at Loyola Medicine and Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, system director of operations at Presence Health Foundation, and senior development officer at Resurrection Development Foundation. His diverse healthcare philanthropic leadership experience greatly improves the prospects of Hazelden Betty Ford's ambitious comprehensive campaign, said Moira McGinley, the nonprofit's vice president of development and chief development officer.
"David's healthcare fundraising savvy puts our case for philanthropy in crystal-clear terms," said McGinley. "As more individuals, families and communities find themselves swept into the twin tornadoes of substance use and mental health issues combined with COVID-19, everyone will be impacted, and this big, bold campaign will be essential to bringing hope, healing, health and recovery to the nation."
Wilke currently serves as the vice chair of AHP's Standards Committee, which recently released the updated 2020 edition of the AHP Standards Manual, and is a frequent speaker at AHP conferences.
